n-Dodecylzinc bromide - Risk and Safety
n-Dodecylzinc bromide - Introduction
n-Dodecylzinc bromide (n-Dodecylzinc bromide) is an organic compound with the chemical formula C12H25BrZn. It is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a peculiar pungent odor.
n-Dodecylzinc bromide can be used as reagents in organic synthesis. Because it contains covalent bonds and metal-carbon bonds, it can be used as an active substance or catalyst in organic chemical reactions. It can be used to catalyze the polymerization of olefins, such as the polymerization of ethylene and propylene.
This compound can be prepared by reacting zinc bromide and dodecahaloalkane in an anhydrous solvent (such as tetrahydrofuran). Specifically, zinc bromide is dissolved in anhydrous tetrahydrofuran, followed by addition of dodechaloalkane, and the reaction produces dodecyl zinc bromide.
Safety precautions are required when using n-Dodecylzinc bromide. It is an irritant substance that can cause eye and skin irritation. Wear protective glasses and gloves during operation to avoid contact with skin and eyes. In addition, it should be used in a well-ventilated place to avoid its steam inhalation. If accidental contact or inhalation, should immediately rinse with plenty of water, and medical treatment.
Because n-Dodecylzinc bromide are toxic, they should be stored and handled properly. It should be stored in a closed container, away from fire and oxidizing agents. Do not mix with food, drinks or other chemicals. When disposing of waste, appropriate measures should be taken in accordance with local regulations.
